The Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot is a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts, known for its comfort, durability, and performance. After using these boots on several hiking trips, I would like to share my experience along with some pros and cons.
Pros
Comfort: The Moab 2 Mid provides excellent cushioning and support, making long hikes much more enjoyable. The contoured footbed and padded collar help reduce fatigue.
Waterproofing: The M Select DRY technology keeps your feet dry in wet conditions, which is essential for hiking in unpredictable weather.
Traction: The Vibram outsole offers great grip on various terrains, from rocky trails to muddy paths, ensuring stability and confidence with each step.
Breathability: Despite being waterproof, the boots allow for good airflow, preventing overheating during strenuous hikes.
Durability: The quality materials used in construction seem to withstand rough use, making these boots a long-term investment.
Cons
Weight: While the boots are sturdy, they can feel a bit heavier compared to other hiking boots, which may be a concern for those looking for ultralight options.
Break-in Period: Some users may experience a break-in period where the boots feel stiff initially. It took me a few hikes to fully adjust to their fit.
Price: They are on the pricier side compared to some other hiking boots, but the quality justifies the cost for many users.
So this is the first pair of hiking boots that I've purchased specifically to test and review. I chose the Merrell Moab 2 Mids because they have had excellent reviews with some controversy over the waterproof feater, which in my opinion is second only to comfort. The trails were muddy and steep at Spanish Steps, Guam, and I was pleased with how well the boots performed. The waterproof feature held up perfectly, keeping my feet dry even after a heavy rain. The traction was impressive, allowing me to navigate slippery rocks with ease. After a full day of hiking, my feet felt comfortable and supported, with no blisters or soreness, which I have experienced with other boots in the past. Although they felt a bit heavy at times, the stability they provided was worth it.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable hiking boot. Despite a few minor drawbacks, the benefits far outweigh them, making these boots a solid choice for both casual hikers and serious adventurers. I'll give them a few more runs, but these boots are choice!
